Do we need to go online and get online and get a I-94 form?
"An I-94 is a form denoting the Arrival-Departure Record of particular foreigners used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) uses Form I-94 also. Form I-94 must be completed at the time of entry to the United States by foreign citizens that are being admitted into the United States in a non-immigrant visa status.
As a general rule, non-U.S. citizens who are also non-U.S. permanent residents[1] departing the United States are required to surrender their Form I-94 when leaving the United States, so that their departure can be properly recorded by the CBP Officers (typically to the airline or ship representative, or into a deposit box in the terminal)"
Some au-pairs have reported that they needed this to get a social security number (for tax purposes) or even a bank account so I would do it.
How many weeks paid vacation does an au pair get?
An au pair receives TWO weeks paid vacation to be mutually decided upon between the au pair and host family.
Do host families have to pay for the week au pairs are training in NYC?
Some HF's do and some don't. However, most host families DO give their au pairs something for that week since they are receiving training that will enhance their child skills.
How many classes/courses must and au pair take to meet the educational requirement?
Au pairs are required to take the 6 credits (72 hours) of classes during their program year. A 6 month extension requires an additional 3 credits (36 hrs. Most HF's also pay for transportation.

What do I do if an au pair is sick and unable to work?
Host families should always have a "Plan B" that includes other possible sitters in the case of illness or injury. Parents-in-a-Pinch is a good resource for emergency child care but you need to be signed up/pay a fee BEFORE getting child care.
Does my au pair need a social security card?
Au pairs are eligible to apply for non-working Social Security numbers. Some states require SS# to apply for a driver’s license, and some banks and schools require the SSN to open accounts or register for classes. Most au pairs do not need a SSN - however, it can make all of the above mentioned processes easier. She must wait at least twelve days after her arrival in the United States to apply for a #/card.
To obtain a SSN, an au pair must download an application for a social security number (form SS-5) available at www.socialsecurity.gov
Take the filled out application to your local SS office and bring:

- DS-2019 form
- Proof of identification that is at least one year old (e.g. passport, driver's license, birth certificate) Social Security will verify the au pair's status with SEVIS before a social security card number can be assigned.
